Copper Nickel (Kunifer) Brake Pipe

Any mechanic who has spent time under a vehicle on a lift knows the headache of dealing with corroded steel brake lines. While standard copper pipe is often used as a quick, cheap fix because it’s soft and easy to flare, it lacks the structural integrity and fatigue strength required for long-term safety, especially in modern high-pressure ABS systems.

Copper Nickel—commonly referred to in the trade as Kunifer, CuNi, or NiCopp—is the professional standard for brake line replacement. It offers the perfect balance of workability and durability, making it the superior choice for workshop brake repairs and full vehicle restorations.

Why Kunifer Beats Standard Copper and Steel:

  • High Fatigue Strength: Unlike pure copper, which can work-harden, become brittle, and crack under constant vibration and pressure cycles, Copper Nickel has a much higher fatigue limit. It is rated to withstand the extreme pressures of hydraulic braking systems safely.
  • Exceptional Corrosion Resistance: Standard steel lines rust out quickly on salted UK roads. Kunifer is highly resistant to salt, moisture, and road grime, ensuring the brake lines will likely outlast the vehicle they are fitted to.
  • Excellent Workability: While stiffer than pure copper, Kunifer is still pliable enough to be bent by hand or with a pipe bender without kinking. It takes a perfect single or double flare (SAE or DIN) easily using standard workshop flaring tools, without splitting the pipe end.

Workshop Application:

This pipe is ideal for replacing corroded front-to-rear brake lines, caliper bridge pipes, and hard-to-reach clutch lines. When routing along the chassis, it holds its shape far better than soft copper, allowing for a neat, professional finish that clips securely into the original factory brackets. It is the reliable choice for ensuring a vehicle passes its MOT and remains safe on the road for years to come.
