Copper Nickel (Kunifer) Brake Pipe

If you have ever had to fail a vehicle on its MOT for corroded brake lines, or spent hours wrestling with rusty steel OE pipes, you know how critical material choice is. While standard copper pipe is easy to bend, it lacks the fatigue strength required for long-term peace of mind. Copper Nickel—commonly known in the trade as Kunifer, CuNi, or NiCopp—is the professional's choice for plumbing brake systems that are built to last.

Why Choose Copper Nickel Over Standard Copper?

Standard copper is soft and easy to work, but it is susceptible to work-hardening, vibration cracking, and has a lower burst pressure rating. Kunifer is an alloy containing copper, nickel, and iron. This specific blend gives you the best of both worlds:

  • Superior Corrosion Resistance: Unlike steel, it won’t rust. Unlike standard copper, it highly resists the harsh road salt and chemical de-icers used on UK roads in winter.
  • High Fatigue Strength: It easily handles the constant pressure spikes of modern ABS systems and resists cracking caused by engine and chassis vibration.
  • Workability: While slightly stiffer than pure copper, it is still highly malleable. It can be bent by hand or with standard pipe benders, and it flares cleanly without splitting when using a quality flaring tool.

In the Workshop

This pipe is ideal for full brake system refits, classic car restorations, or quick patch repairs. It holds its shape beautifully once bent, allowing you to replicate neat, factory-style routing along the chassis. When flaring, it takes a clean SAE single or DIN double flare without galling your die, ensuring a perfect, leak-free seal at the union every time.
