Why Copper-Nickel (Kunifer) is the Professional's Choice for Brake Lines
When you're underneath a vehicle replacing rotted brake lines to get it through an MOT, you only want to do the job once. While standard copper pipe is incredibly easy to bend by hand, it lacks the structural integrity and fatigue resistance required for long-term peace of mind under high-pressure braking systems.
Copper-Nickel (commonly known in the trade as Kunifer, CuNi, or NiCopp) is the industry standard for professional brake line fabrication. It offers the perfect balance of workability and durability, making it the go-to choice for workshops that don't cut corners.
Real-World Benefits in the Workshop:
Superior Corrosion Resistance: Unlike standard steel lines that rust out, or pure copper which can oxidise and degrade over time, Copper-Nickel is highly resistant to road salt, moisture, and grime. This is crucial for vehicles facing harsh UK winters.
High Fatigue Strength: Brake lines are constantly subjected to engine vibration and chassis flex. Kunifer has a much higher fatigue strength than standard copper, meaning it won't work-harden and crack under stress.
Excellent Workability: While stiffer than pure copper, Kunifer is still pliable enough to be routed cleanly along the chassis. It flares beautifully without splitting, ensuring a perfect, leak-free seal every time.
High Pressure Rating: Engineered to easily withstand the extreme hydraulic pressures generated during emergency braking.
Mechanic's Tip for Installation:
Because Copper-Nickel is slightly tougher than soft copper, we recommend using a high-quality turret-style flaring tool to get clean, consistent DIN or SAE flares. Avoid cheap hand-held flaring kits, as they can slip on Kunifer. When bending, use a proper pipe-bending tool to achieve tight, kink-free radiuses without restricting brake fluid flow.
Please note: The actual pipe supplied may differ slightly in appearance or packaging from the image shown, but the material specification remains strictly premium-grade Copper-Nickel.
