When you're replacing corroded brake lines to get a vehicle through its MOT, you want a material that is easy to work with but built to last. While standard copper pipe is soft and easy to bend, it lacks the structural integrity and long-term corrosion resistance required for harsh under-car environments. That is where Copper Nickel (commonly known as Kunifer, CuNi, or NiCopp) comes in.
This copper-nickel alloy is the professional mechanic's choice for brake line fabrication. It offers the perfect balance: it is pliable enough to be shaped with a pipe bender, yet tough enough to withstand high-pressure braking systems and road debris.
Why Choose Copper Nickel (Kunifer) Over Standard Copper?
Superior Corrosion Resistance: Unlike standard copper, Kunifer is highly resistant to road salt, moisture, and grime—critical for vehicles braving UK winters.
High Fatigue Strength: It resists work-hardening and vibration cracking, ensuring the brake lines won't degrade under constant hydraulic pressure and road buzz.
Clean Flares: It holds its shape perfectly when using SAE or DIN flaring tools, giving you tight, leak-free joints every time.
Workability: While slightly stiffer than pure copper, it remains far easier to route and flare than rigid steel lines, saving you valuable time on the lift.
Workshop Tips for Installation
For the best results, always use a high-quality flaring tool to prevent splitting. When routing the pipe along the chassis, use proper pipe bending pliers to achieve tight, kink-free radiuses. Avoid bending the pipe back and forth excessively to prevent unnecessary work-hardening before installation.
Please note: The actual pipe supplied may differ slightly in appearance from the image shown, but the material specification and performance remain identical.

Copper pipes are more traditional and easier to work with however Copper Nickel (aka CuNI, Kunifer, cupro-nickel or NiCopp) is more resistant to corrosion and has a higher fatigue strength.
