Copper Nickel (Kunifer) Brake Pipe – Professional Grade

When you're replacing corroded brake lines for an MOT pass or a full rebuild, the material you choose matters. While standard copper pipe is cheap and easy to bend by hand, it lacks the tensile strength of steel and can suffer from work-hardening and fatigue over time. This Copper Nickel (commonly known as Kunifer, CuNi, or NiCopp) line is the industry standard for professional, permanent brake repairs.

Why Choose Kunifer Over Standard Copper?

Kunifer is a specialized alloy that combines the corrosion resistance of copper with the strength of nickel. In the workshop, this translates to three major advantages:

  • Superior Corrosion Resistance: Unlike steel, it won’t rust out after a couple of salty UK winters. Unlike pure copper, it resists chemical degradation and green oxidisation.
  • High Fatigue Strength: Brake systems operate under immense pressure. Kunifer has a much higher burst pressure rating than standard copper and resists cracking caused by chassis vibration and heat cycles.
  • The Sweet Spot for Workability: It is stiffer to bend than soft copper, but infinitely easier to route and flare than steel. It holds its shape beautifully once bent, allowing you to achieve a neat, factory-look finish along the chassis rail.

Workshop Advice

Because Kunifer is tougher than standard copper, we recommend using a high-quality flaring tool—such as a bench-mounted turret tool or a heavy-duty hydraulic hand tool—to get clean, precise SAE double flares or DIN bubble flares. Cheap, wing-nut type DIY flaring kits can struggle to grip this pipe properly and may slip. Always use a proper pipe bender for tight radiuses to avoid kinking the line and restricting fluid flow.
