Professional Grade Copper Nickel (Kunifer) Brake Pipe
If you have ever had to replace corroded steel brake lines on a vehicle that has spent its life on salted UK roads, you know how vital material choice is. While standard copper pipe is cheap and easy to bend, it lacks the tensile strength and fatigue resistance required for long-term safety under high hydraulic pressures. This Copper Nickel (commonly known as Kunifer, CuNi, or NiCopp) tubing is the professional workshop standard for fabricating brake lines that are built to last.
Unlike standard copper, which can work-harden and crack over time due to chassis vibration, Copper Nickel features a specialized alloy blend that delivers superior fatigue strength. It offers the rust-free peace of mind of copper, but with the structural integrity closer to that of steel. For MOT test standards and long-term vehicle safety, it is the best material you can run under a chassis.
Why Choose Kunifer Over Standard Copper?
Superior Corrosion Resistance: Highly resistant to road salt, moisture, and chemical degradation, preventing the pitting and scaling that ruins steel lines.
High Fatigue Strength: Engineered to withstand constant hydraulic pressure cycling and engine/road vibrations without work-hardening or cracking.
Excellent Workability: While stiffer than pure copper, it remains highly malleable. It can be bent cleanly without kinking and takes a perfect, crisp DIN or SAE flare without splitting.
Professional Finish: Holds its shape along the chassis rails far better than soft copper, resulting in a neater, factory-quality installation.
Mechanic's Tip for Installation
Because Kunifer is slightly tougher than standard copper, we recommend using a high-quality turret or bench-mounted flaring tool rather than a cheap hand-held kit. Ensure you deburr the inside and outside of the cut pipe before flaring to guarantee a leak-free seal against your brake unions. When routing along the chassis, use proper brake pipe clips to prevent any rubbing against the bodywork.
Please note: The actual pipe supplied may differ slightly in appearance or branding from the image shown, but will always meet the exact material specifications detailed above.

Copper pipes are more traditional and easier to work with however Copper Nickel (aka CuNI, Kunifer, cupro-nickel or NiCopp) is more resistant to corrosion and has a higher fatigue strength.
