DOT 5 Silicone Brake Fluid
The Permanent Solution for Classic and Low-Use Braking Systems
For any mechanic working on classic cars, military vehicles, or machinery that sits idle for long periods, standard polyglycol brake fluid (DOT 3, 4, and 5.1) is a constant headache. It is hygroscopic, meaning it actively absorbs moisture from the air. Over time, this water content lowers the boiling point of the fluid, rots steel brake lines from the inside out, and seizes wheel cylinders and calipers.
Automec Original DOT 5 Silicone Brake Fluid solves this problem entirely. Because silicone is hydrophobic, it repels moisture rather than absorbing it. By keeping water out of the hydraulic system, it prevents internal rust and corrosion while maintaining a consistent 260°C boiling point for the lifetime of the vehicle. Once installed, it essentially eliminates brake system wear, offering reliable performance for upwards of 70,000 to 100,000 miles without the need for biennial fluid changes.
Zero Paint Damage and Improved Workshop Safety
Every technician knows the stomach-churning feeling of spilling traditional glycol fluid onto a freshly painted wing. Glycol acts like paint stripper; Automec DOT 5 does not. If you spill it on bodywork during installation or bleeding, you simply wipe it off with a rag. There is no damage to the paintwork, saving you from costly and embarrassing respray bills. Additionally, DOT 5 has a significantly higher flashpoint than standard fluids, meaning it is far less likely to ignite in the event of a front-end collision—one of the key reasons it was adopted as the standard fluid by the US military for their light vehicle fleets.
Important Workshop Notes for Installation
To get the best results from Automec DOT 5, there are a few practical rules to follow in the workshop:
Never Mix Fluids: DOT 5 silicone fluid is completely incompatible with glycol-based DOT 3, 4, or 5.1 fluids. Mixing them creates a gelatinous mess that will clog your brake lines and ruin seal performance.
System Flushing: For best results, DOT 5 should be introduced into a completely new system, or one that has been thoroughly stripped, cleaned, and flushed of all old glycol fluid.
The Ultimate Brake Overhaul: If you are rebuilding a braking system and running new lines, pairing Automec DOT 5 with corrosion-resistant Kunifer (copper-nickel) pipe creates a virtually indestructible, lifetime braking setup that will outlast the vehicle itself.
Complete the job. Always use Automec Original DOT 5 Silicone Brake Fluid supplied around the world since 1982.
DOT 5 Silicone Brake Fluid repels moisture so, unlike standard polyglycol brake fluid, it never needs changing.
Rust and corrosion are inhibited as moisture is kept out of the system and the high boiling point of 260 degrees C is maintained throughout the life of the product therefore ensuring consistent, safe performance.
Does not damage your paintwork if spilled.
Will not easily catch fire in the event of an accident.
Used exclusively by the US military in their light vehicles.
DOT 5 Silicone Brake Fluid will essentially eliminate brake system wear and corrosion for at least 70,000 miles with service periods in excess of 100,000 miles being feasible.
Copper pipes are more traditional and easier to work with however Copper Nickel (aka CuNI, Kunifer, cupro-nickel or NiCopp) is more resistant to corrosion and has a higher fatigue strength.
We can manufacture pipes to your exact specifications.
