DOT 5 Silicone Brake Fluid
If you are restoring a classic, rebuilding a braking system, or preparing a vehicle that spends long periods in storage, standard glycol-based brake fluid is your enemy. It actively absorbs moisture from the atmosphere, which leads to internal corrosion, pitted wheel cylinders, seized calipers, and a spongy pedal. Automec Original DOT 5 Silicone Brake Fluid solves this problem permanently by repelling moisture entirely.
Unlike standard DOT 3, 4, or 5.1 fluids, silicone fluid does not need to be changed every two years. Because it keeps water out of the system, it maintains its high dry boiling point of 260°C indefinitely, preventing vapor lock and ensuring a firm, consistent pedal feel under heavy braking. It is a genuine "fit and forget" solution that virtually eliminates wear and corrosion in the hydraulic system, keeping components clean and functional for well over 70,000 miles.
For workshop use, this fluid offers two massive practical advantages. First, it is completely non-corrosive to paintwork. If you spill a drop on a freshly painted wing or chassis, you can simply wipe it off without ruining hours of prep and paintwork. Second, it has a high flashpoint and will not easily ignite in the event of an accident—one of the key reasons the US military uses it exclusively in their light vehicle fleets.
Mechanic's Note: DOT 5 silicone fluid cannot be mixed with standard glycol-based fluids. To get the full benefit, the braking system must be completely flushed of old fluid, or ideally, filled during a complete rebuild with new seals and fresh lines. If you are replacing the plumbing, we recommend using Copper-Nickel (Kunifer) lines over standard copper for their superior fatigue strength and corrosion resistance.
Hydrophobic Formula: Repels moisture to prevent internal rust and caliper seizure.
Paint-Safe: Will not damage bodywork or chassis paint if spilled during bleeding.
High Thermal Stability: Maintains a 260°C boiling point for consistent pedal feel.
Extended Service Life: Eliminates the need for biennial fluid changes, lasting up to 100,000 miles.
Proven Reliability: Trusted by the US military and classic car restorers globally since 1982.
Complete the job. Always use Automec Original DOT 5 Silicone Brake Fluid supplied around the world since 1982.
DOT 5 Silicone Brake Fluid repels moisture so, unlike standard polyglycol brake fluid, it never needs changing.
Rust and corrosion are inhibited as moisture is kept out of the system and the high boiling point of 260 degrees C is maintained throughout the life of the product therefore ensuring consistent, safe performance.
Does not damage your paintwork if spilled.
Will not easily catch fire in the event of an accident.
Used exclusively by the US military in their light vehicles.
DOT 5 Silicone Brake Fluid will essentially eliminate brake system wear and corrosion for at least 70,000 miles with service periods in excess of 100,000 miles being feasible.
Copper pipes are more traditional and easier to work with however Copper Nickel (aka CuNI, Kunifer, cupro-nickel or NiCopp) is more resistant to corrosion and has a higher fatigue strength.
We can manufacture pipes to your exact specifications.
