A worn or damaged flaring punch is the fastest way to ruin a brake line fabrication job, leading to poorly formed flares and weeping joints. This replacement punch is designed specifically for use with Automatic and Universal Flaring Tools, allowing you to restore your tool's performance without the expense of buying an entirely new kit.

The Reality of Working with Copper vs. Kunifer

In the workshop, you will typically work with two types of brake pipe: standard copper and Copper-Nickel (commonly known as Kunifer, CuNi, or NiCopp). While standard copper is soft and incredibly easy to flare, Kunifer is the professional standard for high-quality, long-lasting brake line replacement. Kunifer offers vastly superior resistance to road salt corrosion and has a much higher fatigue strength, meaning it handles system pressure and chassis vibration far better over time.

However, because Kunifer is a much tougher alloy, it places significantly more stress on your flaring hardware. Trying to flare Kunifer with a worn or chipped punch will result in off-centre, split, or deformed flares that won't seal in the union. Keeping a fresh, high-grade replacement punch in your toolbox ensures you get a perfect, leak-free SAE or DIN flare every single time, whether you are working on soft copper or stubborn copper-nickel lines.

Copper pipes are more traditional and easier to work with however Copper Nickel (aka CuNI, Kunifer, cupro-nickel or NiCopp) is more resistant to corrosion and has a higher fatigue strength.
